ABOUT JALAINE

I am originally from a small farm town in Northwestern Ohio and was raised on a farm.  I was put to work at a very young age to contribute to the needs of the farm animals, including caring for pigs, cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks, a horse and a pony.  I had a natural love for all animals. I can still recall riding my cow around the property as a child, thinking it was basically my horse.  As a pre-teen, I continued to raise pigs each year until I reached high school age.  By the time I was 16, we no longer had any farm animals on our property, but they were deeply missed by me!  I've always had a deep love for all animals. 

After graduating high school, I joined the United States Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman, treating United States Marines for their medical needs in the field and in clinical settings.  This is where I met my husband and introduced him to my love of animals.  We were married within just four months of knowing each other and I shared with him how I was raised with animals inside and outdoors and I felt that no dog should be left outside, after I  met him and his family and they had a dog that lived outside permanently.  It was just not something I was familiar with in my life. Shortly after we married, we brought in our first Labrador Retriever, Zoey and this was the beginning of a new life for us.  We have always had at least one dog and cat since we married, because we love their companionship. 

As a mother, I have raised two children.  My son was in FFA as a high school student and I fell in love with the idea of him raising a duck for his project.  Well, long story short, I ended up raising the ducks and he fell out of FFA and they became my project daily until we could find a better home for them when we decided to add a pool to our backyard.  The ducks were so entertaining and I treated them like they were my babies, just as I do my dogs and cats.  I learned everything I could about raising runner ducks, and they were pretty awesome to have around.
